In the current society, education is very important if you want to be successful in life. Although the success of a person is not only measured by how educated they are, education plays an important role in their success. With more people going to school in the 21^st century as compared to the 19^th and 20^th Centuries more issues are arising in education. Some controversial issues in education are;

Some people are for the idea that children should wear school uniforms while others are for the idea that children should be given the freedom to wear what they want. Most people who consider school uniforms to be important think that it is one of the ways of curbing violence as it will be very easy to know who is a student and who is not. Uniforms are also important since they are a symbol of unity for the school.

Mainstreaming is the other current issue in education. Some people think that it is much better to mainstream where children who are emotionally, mentally and physically challenged learn in a regular class and not special education classrooms. Educators talk about the merits of mainstreaming and the demerits in cases where students have severe challenges and they cannot keep up with their peers in class.

There are different kinds of arguments when it comes to taking your child to a private school or a public school. Most parents generally prefer private schools that have a higher standard of education. However, most parents cannot afford the tuition costs in these schools. Other parents are also opting to home school their children rather than take them to private or public schools.

With the increase in insecurity in schools, the administration departments of different schools are adopting stringent measures to enhance security. Many schools have installed mental detectors at the entrance of the institution. More schools are also conducting a thorough search of all people entering the school. Although some people think that this is an infringement on their rights, most people think; it is the small price they have to pay to enhance security in schools.

In the current world, almost every person owns a mobile phone. The mobile phone is an important mode of communication and it enables people to communicate very easily. The bone of contention is whether students should be allowed to go with their cell phones to school and should they be allowed to use them in the school compound. Some people are for the idea that students should be allowed to use their cell phones while at school in the case of an emergency but the question is; what constitutes an emergency?

The different issues in education provide an avenue for people to air their opinions and discuss the way forward regarding the different challenges facing the education sector. By evaluating these issues and coming up with solutions for dealing with these challenges, the government is able to ensure that the country maintains high education standards. Higher education standards mean that children are getting a good education.
